Plywood tables

Here are some ideas for tables/furniture made from 4×8 foot pieces of plywood.

Diamond/triangle coffee table

Cut the board into three 2 2/3×4 ft pieces. Two of them are the base, which form an X, the other one is the top which slides in. Since it's triangle, it probably won't need any glue/bracing/etc. Cutting the angles right will be hard and probably needs a precision cutter. Diamond shelves

Like the coffee table, except you just cut eight 1x4ft “base” pieces, and interlace them as diamonds. This would probably make some of the angles easier to get, but there would be a pretty significant amount of wasted storage space.

Square coffee table

Cut one 4×4 ft piece, and four 2×2 ft. Cut four 1ft slits in swastika formation on the large board, and 1“ slits in all of the four smaller pieces (the legs). All of the cuts here could be at 90 degree angles, which would make it pretty easy to make, but it would have to be done really precisely if the table was to sit flat on the floor and be sturdy.

Rectangular coffee table

Like above, but with a 6×4 ft piece and 1×2 ft legs and 6” slits.

Tall, long, and narrow triangular table

Rather than cutting into three 2 2/3×4 ft, cut into three 4/3×8 ft pieces… assemble in the same way, except intersect the X at 90 degree angles. That would make it 8 feet long and about 5 feet tall! The triangle would make for great storage for bottles.

Five or six small (trapezoidal?) stools

Cut out five rectangles (the bases), 1.75×1.6 ft - now you have 2×8 ft. Now cut out ten rectangles (the feet), each 1.25×1.6 ft. Put 7.5“ slits in the bases and feet.. they could be offset or the slits in the bases could just be 2.2 in longer, which would center the legs and put a little divot on either side. The slits should be on opposite sides for stability. The legs could be perpendicular to the base, or they could be offset by a little bit for extra stability. Straight they would be perfect chair height. You could also do 6 where they were the base is 1.75×4/3 ft, but then they'd only be 15” tall which is somewhat short.

Four larger trapezoidal stools

With 3x4ft of it, cut out four 1.5×2 ft bases. With the rest, cut out eight 1.25×2 ft bases. Everything is as above, except the legs should probably be slanted so that the height is about 19“.

Dining room table

Cut out one large 7×3.5 ft top. Beneath and to the side now you can cut out .5×3.5 ft legs. With the remaining 1x.5 ft piece, you can cut out four .5x.25 pieces which would be ideal for stabilizing it. The slits could be cut in a swastika pattern, and then the stabilizers go triangularly from the leg to the table… or the legs could go parallel to one side and it could be trapezoidal. It would probably still be useful to have the stabilizing pieces.

Square shelves

It would be pretty simple to cut out eight 4×1 ft slices and slot them so that they're in a grid.

Tall shelves

You could also cut out two 1×8 ft pieces and four 1×4 ft pieces, which would make for taller non-square shelving.

Triangular/trapezoidal benches

Cut out two 2×4 ft pieces, and eight .5×4 ft pieces. Each of the two bases get four legs, paired on either side - they'd form as an upside-down V. Then, put the base about 19” up, so that it looks like /-\ except they meet at the top. You could also do this with one 2×8 ft piece, and four 1×4 ft pieces. One drawback might be that the V's would be pretty tall - so instead you could make it trapezoidal. Instead of eight .5 x 4 you could do eight 1 x 2, and then actually make it look like /-\.
